Best Rewards Cards for Uber (and Lyft)

Ride-sharing services such as Lyft and Uber provide a convenient alternative to taxis and more traditional forms of transportation – maximize your travel rewards on every Uber with these cards:

1) Citi ThankYou Premier

Thanks to recent changes made in its bonus categories, the Citi ThankYou Premier card now offers members 3X ThankYou points per dollar spent on travel – including purchases made for both Lyft and Uber. ThankYou points are valued at roughly 1.6 cents apiece so eligible travel purchases will earn you a generous 4.8% return.

Members can transfer points to 12 airline partners including Virgin America through the Citi ThankYou rewards program.

New cardholders have the opportunity to earn 50,000 bonus points after making at least $3,000 in purchases within the first three months that your account is open. Members earn the greatest return when redeeming points for travel rewards. The 50,000 bonus points currently offered can be redeemed for up to $625 in airfare (or $500 in other rewards).

This card has an annual fee of $95 which is waived for the first year.

2) Chase Sapphire

Chase Sapphire cardholders earn 2X points on travel-related expenses including Lyft and Uber transactions. With Ultimate Rewards points currently worth around 2.1 cents per point, you get a solid return of 4.2% every time you use your card to pay for these transportation services.

Members have various options when redeeming points including airline tickets, hotel stays and car rentals. Plus, account holders receive a 20% discount on airfare, hotel accommodations, car rentals and cruises when you redeem points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards website. Points can also be transferred on a 1:1 basis to numerous airline transfer partners including Southwest Airlines, United Airline and British Airways.

New members can currently earn a generous 40,000 bonus points after spending at least $4,000 within three months from the date your account is opened. These bonus points add up to $500 of travel rewards. You can also earn an additional 5,000 bonus points when you make a purchase and add an authorized user during the first three months that your account is active.

This card does not charge members foreign transaction fees. The annual fee of $95 is waived for the first year.

3) Capital One Quicksilver

The Capital One Quicksilver is a rewards credit card which gives members a solid 1.5% cash back on every purchase all the time. There are no rotating categories to keep up with and rewards can be redeemed for any amount whenever you choose.

This card is currently offering cardholders a 20% discount on all Uber rides through April 30, 2016. (The discount is not available on Lyft transactions.) Factoring in the 20% off, this gives you a rate of return of 21.5% on Uber purchases.

New account holders can earn a $100 bonus after spending at least $500 on eligible purchases within the first three months that your account is open. The card also comes with a 0% introductory APR good through the 07/2016 billing period on both purchases and balance transfers. Members are not charged foreign transaction fees.

There is no annual fee for this card.
